Robert’s Rules of Order are used during Board Meetings to facilitate the decision-making process. They ensure that discussion is clear, and that the rights of both the majority and the minority are protected. Below are some of the basic rules within Bob’s Rules that help a meeting run more smoothly and keep discussion on track. The rules, however, are not meant to disrupt or hold-up a meeting, and may be suspended if a member is using them for those purposes.
There is provision within Robert’s Rules to suspend the rules, and often at the committee level a consensus decision-making process is employed.
